Nasarawa Allocation Rises to ₦16bn Monthly as Sule Credits Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Alhaji Sule, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing bold economic reforms, saying the measures have significantly improved the state’s monthly revenue allocation from the Federation Account.

Governor Sule disclosed this on Saturday in Lafia while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the governor, Nasarawa State’s monthly allocation, which previously stood at about ₦3.8 billion to ₦4.5 billion, has risen to approximately ₦16 billion following the removal of fuel subsidy and other economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration.

He said the increased revenue had provided the state with greater fiscal space to execute major development projects in infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply and industrialisation.

Governor Sule, who described himself as a former private-sector operator, also stressed the importance of transparency in the utilisation of public funds.

“For us in Nasarawa State, we are very transparent. I came from the private sector, so every contract I give, I announce the amount that we are spending on that contract, so that people can now see the difference with the kind of money we are receiving,” he said.

The governor acknowledged that the removal of fuel subsidy and other reforms initially created economic difficulties for Nigerians but maintained that President Tinubu demonstrated political courage by taking responsibility for difficult decisions considered necessary to strengthen the nation’s economy.

He said the reforms had ultimately increased the resources available to the three tiers of government.

“Today, we are beginning to see the benefits because the resources available to us have increased tremendously,” Sule stated.

He added that the additional resources had enabled his administration to undertake several landmark projects across Nasarawa State, particularly in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply and industrial development.

Media Tour Inspects Nasarawa Projects

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour comprises Presidential media aides and more than 50 senior journalists, who are visiting federal and state government projects across the North-Central region to assess and document their implementation and impact.

During the visit to Nasarawa State, the delegation inspected the completed multi-billion-naira State Secretariat along Shendam Road, which houses the Ministries of Education, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Justice, as well as a 1-megawatt solar power plant serving the complex.

The team also inspected the completed 16-kilometre Makurdi Bypass in Lafia, which connects Nasarawa and Benue States; the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Centre; the Shinge Waterstorm Channel; and the completed Kilema Bridge along the Lafia-Doma Road.

Speaking during the tour, Onanuga commended President Tinubu for taking what he described as difficult but necessary economic decisions.

He recalled that the administration announced the removal of fuel subsidy shortly after assuming office in 2023 and subsequently introduced reforms to the foreign exchange market.

According to him, the reforms initially generated hardship and widespread concerns but were aimed at freeing resources for governments at the sub-national level.

Onanuga also commended Governor Sule for publicly supporting the reforms at the time, saying the President had “taken the bullet” on behalf of states and local governments.

“What the President did was to free up resources that the state governors have been longing for to develop their states,” Onanuga said.

Projects Show Impact of Renewed Hope Agenda — AbdulAziz

Also speaking during the inspection of the Makurdi Bypass, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, AbulAziz AbdulAziz, said the scale of infrastructure development witnessed across Nasarawa and neighbouring Benue State demonstrated what he described as the practical impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the nationwide media tour was intended to give journalists an opportunity to independently inspect projects and enable Nigerians to see developments beyond official announcements.

Governor Sule, in turn, expressed optimism that continued economic reforms would further strengthen the financial position of states and provide them with greater capacity to deliver transformative projects.

He urged stakeholders to maintain effective communication with citizens so that Nigerians can better understand both the challenges and long-term objectives of economic policies.

The governor said the ongoing projects across Nasarawa State represented part of his administration’s efforts to translate increased public resources into tangible development and improved living conditions for residents.
