The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has empowered about 1,000 beneficiaries in Lagos State through its NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP), providing participants with practical skills, tools and support aimed at improving livelihoods and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
Speaking on the intervention, NASENI Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Khalil Halilu, said the programme was designed to equip beneficiaries with market-relevant skills that can enable them to become more productive and economically self-reliant.
As part of the initiative, beneficiaries received NASENI clean cookstoves, solar home systems and support packs, alongside hands-on training in POP installation and electrical maintenance.
Halilu said the programme reflects NASENI’s broader commitment to using technology, innovation and skills development to improve the livelihoods of Nigerians.
“For us, empowerment is about giving people the skills, tools and opportunities to create value for themselves,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. James Faleke and Idris Olorunnimbe, as well as other stakeholders, for their support and collaboration in making the intervention possible.
According to him, the ultimate objective is not only to provide immediate assistance but also to develop a skilled workforce capable of creating lasting economic value.
“Our goal is to build skills, improve productivity and create sustainable opportunities,” Halilu added.
The NSEP intervention is expected to help beneficiaries apply their newly acquired technical skills to generate income, strengthen their businesses and contribute to economic development within their communities.
The programme also underscores the growing emphasis on skills-based empowerment, renewable energy solutions and practical vocational training as tools for improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities.
