The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in a London clinic at the age of 82, have arrived in Katsina for burial in his hometown, Daura.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the aircraft conveying Buhari’s body landed at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport, Katsina, at exactly 1:50 p.m. The flight was accompanied by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

At the airport, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led dignitaries in receiving the body. Others present included Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, several ministers, governors, captains of industry, the National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, presidential aides, and members of the Katsina State Executive Council.

Also in attendance were the former President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou; Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Service Chiefs; and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, among others.

In honour of the late President, the Federal Government declared today, Tuesday, a public holiday. This is part of the seven-day national mourning period earlier announced by President Tinubu to commemorate Buhari’s life and legacy.
