The National Defence College (NDC) has celebrated the graduation of 111 participants from its Course 32, including senior officers from the Armed Forces, strategic ministries, departments, agencies, and representatives from 19 friendly countries.
Countries represented in the course include the Republic of Benin, Botswana, Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Germany, India, Liberia, Chad, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Congo, Nepal, and Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony on Friday, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, emphasized that the participants had been equipped with essential knowledge and skills to tackle the diverse challenges posed by the complexities of the current global environment.
Olotu noted that the college’s mission was achieved through a comprehensive nine-module curriculum covering areas such as renewable technology, science and technology, conflict and war studies, policy formulation and analysis, and strategic leadership.
“The last module of the course, which is the ninth, is dedicated to the higher management of the defence package, involving exercises that simulate real-life scenarios and a review of national defence and security policies,” Olotu explained.
The Commandant added that the participants received specialized training in strategic decision-making, future strategic perspectives, net analysis, and policy implementation.
“It is therefore envisaged that this set of participants will contribute to proffering and implementing solutions to current and future national, regional, and global challenges,” he said.
Olotu also highlighted the college’s recent accomplishment of researching and delivering higher management of defence papers to the President for the first time. This year’s paper, titled “Announcing the Mining Industry for National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria by the Year 2025,” was a key achievement of the course.
Additionally, the Commandant expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his substantial support, which enabled the college to enhance its facilities and complete the first phase of a 5MW solar energy sustainability project, generating 1MW of solar power for the complex.
“This is in line with the energy sustainability pillar of the Renewable Agenda of the current administration of Mr President,” Olotu added.
The high points of the event included the presentation of certificates to the graduates, awards of excellence for outstanding research papers, and the unveiling of NDC’s Strategic Lenses Series and Defence Insight Volume 3 by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the ceremony.
