National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Clarifies Private Tour Operator Selection for 2024 Hajj

In a release signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has temporarily halted the allocation of Hajj seats to Private Tour Operators. This decision was prompted by complaints received regarding the selection of the 40 operators approved to manage the 2024 Hajj under the private sector.

In a demonstration of commitment to fairness and openness, NAHCON responded to the complaints by conducting a thorough investigation into the petitions. After a comprehensive probe, NAHCON, along with other stakeholders, has announced that the objections raised were insufficient to overturn the qualification of the 40 approved operators for the 2024 Hajj. These companies were found to have met the prescribed criteria, including capacity of operation, years of experience, historical antecedents, and a clean bill of operation. The selection process is affirmed to be impartial and in accordance with established criteria.

Subsequently, the remaining 70 successful companies have proceeded with mergers alongside the initially approved 40.

In its role as a supervisor, NAHCON has urged the companies engaging in mergers to submit copies of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and other legal documents binding them into the business. This is essential for perusal and documentation purposes.

NAHCON, dedicated to the inclusion of all stakeholders, has reiterated its commitment to keeping the 2024 Hajj fare within the N4,500,000 threshold and not exceeding it. The Chairman of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, has assured intending pilgrims that the leadership is resolute in this regard. The Commission extends its appreciation for the support received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, contributing to bolstering the hope of the Commission’s primary clients – the pilgrims – and all other stakeholders.

Malam Arabi disclosed that NAHCON will announce the final Hajj fare as soon as negotiations with service providers and other relevant government agencies involved in Hajj matters are concluded.
