The projects were inaugurated on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who described the initiatives as part of the Service’s commitment to meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
While commissioning the renovated school, Adeniyi commended the Lilypond Export Command for selecting the project, noting that it reflects the impact the Service seeks to achieve in communities.
“This is the kind of impact we want to make through our CSR. This is very gratifying not just to the Comptroller-General of Customs and members of management, but also to the community we serve,” he said.
The renovation project covered more than 15 classroom blocks and included the installation of 15 solar-powered security lights, computer rooms, a school library, toilets for teachers and pupils, a clinic, a food vendor area, a multipurpose hall, and a playground.
Former Customs Area Controller of the Lilypond Export Command, Comptroller Ajibola Odusanya (Rtd), and the current Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Samuel Ariyibi, described education as a major driver of social progress. They also urged the school management to establish a maintenance unit to sustain the facilities.
Headmistress of the school, Felicia Oyatoye, expressed appreciation to the NCS, noting that the renovation would significantly enhance the teaching and learning environment. The event attracted traditional rulers from the Ibeshe Kingdom, government officials, community stakeholders, and well-wishers.
In a related development, the CGC also commissioned the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena at the Western Marine Command, describing it as a strategic investment in physical fitness, mental well-being, and community engagement.
“When we provide facilities like this, we also have the community in mind. Due to the nature of our job, we must remain physically fit. Our duties are demanding, and maintaining the right balance is essential,” Adeniyi said.
He encouraged officers across commands to make full use of the arena, stressing that it was designed to support both physical and mental health.
The Customs Area Controller of the Western Marine Command, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, emphasised the importance of community collaboration in sustaining the project.
“As a command, we recognise that we cannot secure our environment alone. Community partnership is essential. This facility belongs to the community, and we trust that it will be protected, properly utilised, and maintained,” Ntadi said.
The commissioning ceremony featured a tour of the sports facility, with the CGC participating in sporting activities, highlighting the Service’s commitment to promoting education, healthy living, and stronger community relations.
