By Matthew Eloyi
The Management Team of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), led by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Mohammed G. Alkali, has reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding and supporting communities in the North East region through the inspection of various critical projects in Maiduguri, Borno State. The team, which included Executive Director of Operations Abdulsalam Yahaya Ahmed, Executive Director of Admin/Finance Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, and other senior officials, toured both ongoing and completed projects aimed at improving healthcare, housing, and infrastructure.
Among the inspected projects was the upgrade of the Borno Central Store to Pharma Grade, which will enhance healthcare delivery by ensuring proper storage and distribution of medical supplies. The team also reviewed building material donations for flood victims, a vital effort to help affected communities rebuild their homes and recover from disaster-induced challenges.
Other significant projects included the development of a DSS Clinic, featuring dental and accommodation facilities, as well as the remodeled maternal, childcare, and female ward at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, which addresses maternal and mental healthcare needs in the region.
To improve housing for DSS personnel, the team inspected three-bedroom bungalows at the NUJ Area and Damboa Road GRA. They also assessed the oil mills warehouse, which supports the storage of building materials for reconstruction efforts.
Healthcare took centre stage with the review of facilities like the Malnutrition Hospital in Kushere, designed to combat malnutrition, and the dental and eye hospitals, which will improve access to specialised medical services for residents.
The NEDC also showcased its commitment to enhancing emergency response by donating a newly procured excavator to Borno State for flood relief efforts. Additionally, office equipment and medical supplies were inspected to ensure administrative and healthcare efficiency.
During the inspection, MD/CEO Mohammed G. Alkali emphasised the need for contractors to adhere to project specifications, maintain quality, and complete their work promptly to address the region’s urgent recovery needs. “The timely delivery of these projects is crucial to maximising their impact on the lives of the people,” Alkali said.
The NEDC’s relentless drive to implement impactful projects underscores its dedication to rebuilding the North East and improving the quality of life for its residents.
