Netanyahu Claims Signs Iran’s Supreme Leader May Be Dead as Gulf Tensions Escalate

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said there are “many signs” suggesting that Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, may no longer be alive, amid rapidly escalating military tensions in the Middle East.
The remarks followed coordinated missile strikes launched on Saturday by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran, which Israeli officials described as “pre-emptive.” Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, said the operation was aimed at “removing threats against the State of Israel.”

In apparent retaliation, Iran has reportedly carried out strikes across several locations in the Gulf region. In Dubai, a few people were said to have been injured after what appeared to be an Iranian strike on a hotel at Palm Jumeirah, according to local reports. Eyewitnesses and online footage showed a loud explosion and thick black smoke rising from the site, with ambulances rushing to the area. The blast was reported to be the third explosion heard in Dubai on Saturday, raising public alarm.
Separately, videos circulating online showed missile debris falling into a residential area outside Doha, Qatar, after Iran targeted Al Udeid Air Base, which hosts U.S. troops.

Authorities across the Gulf have since heightened security measures and air-defence readiness as the situation continues to unfold. Official confirmations on casualties and damage, particularly in Dubai, were still awaited at the time of reporting.
