A sense of hope filled the air as a high-level delegation from the Netherlands and the European Union (EU) embarked on a journey to the heart of the conflict-ridden Borno State. Led by Ambassador Wouter Plomp, the delegation’s mission was clear: to understand and support the ongoing efforts to stabilize the region.

As they stepped onto the grounds of the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, they were warmly welcomed by Major General Waidi Shaibu, the Theatre Commander. His words echoed gratitude for the partnership and dedication in tackling the complex security challenges that have plagued the area.

Ambassador Plomp, with admiration evident in his voice, commended the military’s tireless efforts in restoring peace to the region. He, along with other delegates, pledged unwavering support to ensure lasting tranquility prevails.

In the midst of discussions, Captain MA Abdullahi shed light on the harsh realities faced by communities affected by the conflict. The Theatre Commander seized the moment to appeal for backing in implementing the Ngalaram model – a community-led resettlement initiative aimed at fostering sustainable peace.

The visit served as a beacon of hope, symbolizing the unwavering commitment of the Netherlands and the EU to Nigeria’s quest for stability and humanitarian relief in the North East. With promises made, hands shook, and smiles exchanged, the day concluded with a sense of optimism and a shared vision for a brighter future.
