In a special ceremony held at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Auditorium of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) in Asokoro, Abuja, Major General Ishaya Buba Maina, the Commandant AWCN, charged seven newly promoted Brigadier Generals to uphold the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Command Philosophy.

The event marked the promotion of six officers from the Nigerian Army and one from the Nigerian Navy.

General Maina, speaking during the decoration ceremony, emphasised the heightened responsibilities accompanying the new rank. He urged the decorated officers not only to meet expectations but to surpass them. The Commandant particularly stressed the importance of aligning their efforts with the COAS Command Philosophy, highlighting the necessity for strategic and critical thinking in their roles.

Additionally, he urged them to serve as exemplary faculty members, embody in honour, and distinguished character at the College.

Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies at AWCN, delivered a welcome address recognising the hard work and dedication of the newly promoted officers.

He viewed their elevation to the rank of Brigadier General as a testament to their commitment and contributions to both the College and the broader military.

The seven officers decorated during the ceremony are Colonel Nelson Chidiebere Okafor, Colonel Momanie Okon Edide, Colonel Anayochukwu Nwankwo Eze, Colonel Ahmed Olatubosun Balogun, Colonel Nnabueze Emmanuel Okoloagu, Colonel Anwar Abdullahi, and Captain (NN) Akinrinsola Obileke Obisesan—all members of the 47 Regular Course.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Brigadier General NC Okafor delivered the vote of thanks, extending appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, the Commandant AWCN, and all faculty members for their significant contributions.

In his concluding remarks, General Maina’s charge to the decorated officers resonated: “Redouble your commitment to achieving the objectives of AWCN towards producing well-trained, educated, and inspired operational level leaders for the Nigerian Army.”
