The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has apprehended Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim, a man in his fifties, for engaging in fraudulent activities and impersonating top government officials, including the Comptroller-General of Customs.
This revelation came through an official statement released via the NCS’s verified social media account.
CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, the spokesperson for the NCS, disclosed on Monday that Ibrahim’s arrest was the result of diligent intelligence work conducted by the Customs Police Unit.
In a statement, Maiwada stated, “The suspect, Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim, was apprehended for his involvement in impersonating the Comptroller-General of Customs, Chief of Staff to the President, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.”
He further explained, “The suspect has fraudulently lured numerous unsuspecting citizens to pay him money for the issuance of ‘job appointment letters,’ thereby extorting over N1 million from them.”
“This arrest underscores the relentless effort of the Nigeria Customs Service in mitigating and combating criminal elements who exploit the service’s name for fraudulent activities,” Maiwada emphasized.
Ibrahim confessed to his involvement in the fraudulent scheme and provided information about his accomplices, leading to further investigations aimed at arresting and prosecuting them.
During the arrest, counterfeit documents, including fake Customs and NSCDC appointment letters, as well as forged introduction letters purportedly signed by high-ranking government officials, were discovered in Ibrahim’s possession.
