Speaking during a stakeholder engagement with airline and shipping line operators in Abuja on March 4, 2026, the Comptroller-General of Customs emphasised the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the smooth rollout of the initiative.

He noted that the support of key partners has been instrumental in the progress recorded so far in the Service’s modernisation journey and stressed that the NSW initiative represents a major step in positioning Nigeria as a competitive player in global trade.

According to the Customs boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated the Service to take decisive steps toward the successful launch of the National Single Window, which is designed to streamline trade documentation, improve efficiency, and enhance transparency in cargo clearance processes.

The Comptroller-General also assured stakeholders that adequate support structures are being established to ensure a smooth transition to the new digital system. He revealed that a dedicated help desk staffed by trained personnel will be available to address operational challenges that may arise during the rollout phase.

Earlier, during an awareness programme held on March 3, the Service rallied stakeholders and partner agencies behind the initiative, describing the National Single Window as a strategic reform aligned with Customs’ mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and improved inter-agency coordination.

Speaking at the programme, the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of ICT and Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, described the project as a major milestone in the Service’s modernisation drive. She noted that extensive preparatory work had been carried out over several months to ensure the framework reflects operational realities and supports seamless implementation.

“This is a national project, but Customs is at the centre of its execution,” she said, adding that the success of the initiative depends on the collective understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.

Adebakin further reassured officers and industry players that the digital platform is designed to strengthen institutional capacity rather than replace human resources, explaining that technology will improve efficiency, speed, and transparency in trade processes.

Also speaking, the Director of the NSW Project, Tola Fakolade, acknowledged the pivotal leadership role of the NCS in driving the implementation of the project.

He noted that the Service remains the project’s most critical stakeholder and that its operational experience and institutional capacity are vital to the successful execution of the initiative.

With the Nigeria Customs Service spearheading stakeholder engagement and coordination, the National Single Window project is expected to significantly transform Nigeria’s trade environment, enhance revenue generation, and strengthen the country’s position in the global trading system.
