Nigeria has reaffirmed its readiness to attract global investment into its gas sector, with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) highlighting investment opportunities estimated at between $30 billion and $50 billion by 2030.

The Authority Chief Executive, Mr Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, made the call while speaking at the 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), during a panel session titled, “Competing for Feedstock Advantage in a Tighter Supply Environment.”

The session was moderated by Eithne Treanor, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ETreanor Media.

Umar said Nigeria’s challenge was not a shortage of natural gas, noting that the country has proven gas reserves of 215.19 trillion cubic feet (TCF). He explained that the major challenge was developing the infrastructure required to transport the resource to industries and other consumers.

He disclosed that the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) and Oben-Ajaokuta (OB3) gas pipelines, alongside the ELPS compression projects, were nearing completion.

The NMDPRA chief also highlighted Revision 2 of the Nigerian Gas Transportation Network Code, which he said provides industrial gas buyers with fair and transparent access to the national gas transportation network.

Umar further identified the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) as a major financing mechanism for expanding gas infrastructure. He said the Fund had committed ₦671 billion in equity, attracting more than $1 billion in private investment across 31 projects.

He invited international financiers, developers and other energy stakeholders to partner with Nigeria in developing its gas resources, stressing that the country was positioned to turn its vast reserves into economic opportunities and shared regional prosperity.
