A 12-year-old Nigerian-American, Eniola Shokunbi, is gaining widespread attention for her groundbreaking invention—a low-cost air purifier capable of removing 99% of viruses from the air.
Eniola, a fifth-grade student at Commodore MacDonough STEM Academy in Middletown, Connecticut, was inspired to create the device after being assigned a class project to develop a solution for a future airborne pandemic similar to COVID-19.
Her invention, which costs just $60 (approximately N101,000) to produce, underwent rigorous testing at the University of Connecticut, where its effectiveness was confirmed. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also tested the device and validated its air-purifying capabilities.
