Nigerian Army Issues Disclaimer on Fraudulent Payment Requests for Trainee Vetting

The Nigerian Army has issued a strong disclaimer regarding fraudulent financial demands circulating on social media platforms, falsely claiming to be from the Nigerian Army. The scam involves faceless individuals soliciting funds for the vetting of selected trainees currently undergoing training at the Depot, Nigerian Army, Zaria.

This deceptive claim has been deemed not only fraudulent but criminal, prompting the Nigerian Army to address the issue swiftly to prevent further spread.

“Throughout the history of the Nigerian Army, it is widely known that the training of potential recruits and officer cadets is fully funded and borne by the Nigerian Army. Any attempt to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public, whose wards have successfully passed through the meticulous and rigorous screening process and are currently in training, is considered a serious criminal act with the intention of tarnishing the reputation of the Nigerian Army,” the statement affirmed.

The statement advised Parents and guardians are strongly to disregard such false requests in any form and to promptly report anyone attempting to exploit them. The Nigerian Army has already initiated efforts to trace the origin of these fraudulent messages to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, emphasised that the training of potential recruits and officer cadets is entirely funded by the Nigerian Army. The general public is urged to exercise caution and vigilance against the schemes of criminals attempting to defraud them.
