The collaboration, involving Cinematheque Suisse and the Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art, will focus on restoring and digitising two important Nigerian film classics to ensure their accessibility for future generations.
Ali Nuhu disclosed that the Nigerian Film Corporation had earlier restored Shaihu Umar, a renowned Nigerian film adapted from a Hausa novel that tells the story of a boy taken into slavery who later reunites with his family. The film conveys enduring lessons on patience, faith, and justice.
Building on that effort, the new project will see the digitisation of Kulba Na Barna, a 1992 classic from northern Nigeria that delivers a powerful moral message on how individual choices and actions shape personal lives and the wider community.
According to the Managing Director, both films represent vital chapters in Nigeria’s cultural history, and their digitisation will allow young Nigerians to continue learning from and taking pride in the nation’s rich storytelling tradition. He noted that the initiative will further strengthen the National Film, Video and Sound Archive while safeguarding Nigeria’s audiovisual heritage.
The Nigerian Film Corporation also expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Embassy in Germany for its support in facilitating cultural exchange and international collaboration.
The partnership underscores Nigeria’s commitment to preserving its history, promoting cultural diplomacy, and sharing its stories with audiences around the world.
