In a bold move to strengthen food security and foster national development, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to agricultural advancement through the establishment of Defence Farms.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Defence Farm and Agro-Allied Products Logo in Abuja, Gen. Musa emphasized the crucial role of agriculture in ensuring a stable and prosperous nation.
He noted that challenges such as climate change and conflicts have disrupted food supply chains, making it imperative for the Defence Headquarters to initiate the Defence Farm and Agro-Allied Products project in May 2023.
This forward-thinking initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to combat food insecurity while also creating job opportunities, boosting rural development, and modernizing farming techniques.
Gen. Musa expressed optimism that the project would transform host communities and significantly contribute to national economic growth.
He called on both military personnel and the public to embrace the initiative and leverage its benefits.
He also extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership in fostering national prosperity and acknowledged the dedication of the committee members who spearheaded the project.
Chairman of the Defence Farms Committee, Maj.-Gen. IM Abdullahi, highlighted that the military’s involvement in agriculture transcends food production.
“It also enhances national stability, supports research and development, and provides humanitarian assistance.
