A Nigerian student, Nnabuike Chisom, has attracted widespread attention after delivering a graduation speech in fluent Mandarin Chinese at the 2026 Master’s graduation ceremony of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in China.

Chisom, known on social media as @yunsonginchina, was selected to deliver the keynote address on behalf of the university’s international students before an audience of nearly 4,000 students, lecturers and guests.

Reflecting on the milestone, Chisom said learning the language had been a remarkable journey.

“Ten years ago, I didn’t know a single Chinese word. Fast forward to today, I had the honour of standing in front of almost 4,000 students to deliver my graduation speech in Chinese,” he wrote on social media.

He described the opportunity to represent the international student community as a great honour.

The event also featured a surprise performance by Chisom of the traditional Chinese Kuaiban (clapper talk), drawing applause from the audience and highlighting his immersion in Chinese language and culture.

Videos of his speech and performance have since gone viral on social media, attracting praise from Chinese audiences and Nigerians around the world, many of whom commended his language proficiency and cultural appreciation.

Chisom attributed his achievement to perseverance and the support he received during his studies, adding that he still has “a lot of skills to unlock.”

His performance has been widely celebrated as a testament to cultural exchange, determination and the growing global impact of Nigerian students.
