NITDA Mourns Former Science Minister, Prof. Turner Isoun, Hails His Digital Legacy

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Turner Timinipre Isoun, describing him as a visionary leader and one of the foremost architects of Nigeria’s digital transformation whose contributions laid the foundation for the country’s evolving digital economy.
In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, the agency said Professor Isoun played a pivotal role in the establishment and growth of NITDA, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape Nigeria’s technology and innovation ecosystem.
NITDA described the late professor as an eminent scholar and passionate advocate of technology-driven national development, noting that his unwavering belief in the transformative power of knowledge, innovation and merit helped position digital technology as a key driver of national progress.
According to the agency, Professor Isoun’s historic vision and commitment provided the foundation upon which NITDA continues to champion Nigeria’s digital economy while promoting innovation across the country.
The statement further noted that the late academic, fondly remembered as a “digital philosopher,” championed ideas that transcended national boundaries and left an enduring intellectual legacy for Nigeria, Africa and the global technology community.
It added that his commitment to a merit-driven society, passion for innovation and dedication to knowledge sharing would continue to inspire individuals and institutions working to advance digital transformation and sustainable national development.
While describing his death as a significant loss to the nation and the technology ecosystem, NITDA stressed that his enduring legacy would continue through the institutions he helped build, the policies he influenced and the countless lives he impacted.
“The values of integrity, resilience, excellence and service that he embodied will remain a guiding light for NITDA and the broader digital community,” the statement said.
The agency’s Director-General, management and members of staff extended heartfelt condolences to Professor Isoun’s family, friends, colleagues and all those who had the privilege of working with him.
NITDA prayed for the peaceful repose of the late professor’s soul and asked God to grant comfort and strength to all those mourning his passing.
