The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamawa State Command, has honoured one of its personnel, Abubakar Mayos, with a promotion for exemplifying honesty and integrity in the line of duty.
Announcing the promotion during a press conference in Yola on Wednesday, the State Commandant of the Corps, Idris Bande, revealed that Mayos, previously a Corps Assistant II, was elevated to Corps Assistant I for returning a bag containing foreign currency lost by an intending pilgrim.
According to Bande, the bag belonged to Maimuna Salihu, a pilgrim from Taraba State who was scheduled to travel for the 2025 Hajj. It was found at the Yola International Airport and contained $500 and 300 Saudi Riyals—valued at approximately ₦850,000.
“In recognition of his exemplary conduct, the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi, approved the immediate promotion of Mayos from Corps Assistant II (CAII) to Corps Assistant I (CAI),” Bande said.
He noted that Mayos’ integrity had not only earned him admiration from his colleagues and the public but also helped promote the positive image of the NSCDC.
“Today, we recognise Abubakar Mayos not only for his achievements but how he earned the trust and respect of everyone and projected a good image of the corps,” Bande stated.
“In a world where shortcuts are tempting and appearances can be deceptive, Mayos demonstrated principle, steadfastness, transparency, and sincerity.
“Honesty is not just about telling the truth; it is also about living it and making the right choices even when no one is watching.
“It is also about having the courage to speak up, the integrity to act fairly, and the humility to admit mistakes as well.”
Bande further commended the Commandant General, Dr Audi, for fostering a culture of integrity and ethical conduct within the corps.
“By recognising and rewarding honesty, the Commandant General has reaffirmed that doing the right thing pays.
“His leadership continues to inspire a sense of duty and responsibility within our ranks,” he added.
