The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has urged corps members posted to various communities in Gombe State for their primary assignments to steer clear of any form of politics in their host communities.
Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the scheme’s Director-General, gave the charge on Tuesday while declaring the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course closed.

The ceremony took place at the Temporary Orientation Camp in Amada in Akko Local Government (LG), of Gombe State.
Ibrahim said the corps members had no business with the political activities of any communities where they were posted.
“Do remember that engagement in the local politics of your host communities is a no-go-area for you,” he said.
According to him, this was to ensure that corps members do not engage in whatever would smear the good name of the scheme while also protecting themselves.
Ibrahim also advised corps members to make impact in their host communities by undertaking personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) that will uplift the living standard of the people.
Represented by the state coordinator, Mrs Ada Imoni, Ibrahim told the corps members that the entire nation was looking up to them for service to their fatherland towards advancing the unity and development of the country.
He also advised them to shun drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime, advanced-fee-fraud and other vices that could smear the good name of the scheme.
Ibrahim called on the government and the traditional rulers to give the necessary encouragement to corps members to support their CDS initiatives.
He also advised corps members against unauthorized and night trips, adding that night travel was a major risk factor for road traffic accidents.
Our correspondent reports that 872 corps members comprising 451 males and 421 females have been posted to various communities in Gombe state for their primary assignment.
