Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have reportedly joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, in a move seen as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development followed the emergence of a video circulating online on Sunday, showing both leaders receiving their membership cards during what appeared to be a formal registration process. In the footage, Kwankwaso was first presented with his card, followed by Obi.

Their entry into the NDC comes shortly after a closed-door meeting with party leaders at the Abuja residence of Seriake Dickson, who is regarded as a national figure within the party.

The meeting, held in Guzape, Abuja, is believed to be part of broader efforts to consolidate opposition forces and build a formidable coalition ahead of the next election cycle.

Both leaders reportedly arrived at the venue around 5:18 p.m., where they were received by supporters of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, who chanted “O-K is okay” as they entered the premises.

Kwankwaso was dressed in a white babanriga with his signature red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap, while Obi appeared in a black kaftan and matching cap.

The development signals a potential shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape, as key political figures continue to explore new alliances in the lead-up to 2027.
