Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, working with local vigilantes, have reportedly captured several suspected commanders of a terrorist group known as the “Kachalla Maha” network in Katsina State.
The operation, conducted on Sunday, September 20, 2026, reportedly resulted in the arrest of Samagi, identified as one of the group’s senior commanders, alongside other suspected members.
The development comes amid intensified military operations against terrorist and bandit networks in Katsina following the abduction and subsequent death in captivity of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information.
Reports indicate that the Kachalla Maha network has been linked to kidnapping and other violent activities in parts of Katsina State. However, the reported involvement of the suspects in the abduction and death of General Rabe has not been independently established by an official military statement.
The latest operation involved collaboration between troops and local vigilantes, whose local knowledge and intelligence reportedly contributed to tracking members of the group.
The arrest of senior members of the network could provide security agencies with information on its leadership structure, operational methods, hideouts, logistics and possible links to other criminal networks.
The military has continued clearance and intelligence-led operations in Katsina following the death of General Rabe. Defence Headquarters previously announced Operation Clean Sweep III in the area, targeting terrorist and bandit groups and their hideouts.
The suspects are expected to undergo further investigation to establish their individual roles and determine whether they are connected to previous kidnappings, killings and other attacks in Katsina and neighbouring areas.
