Operation Hadin Kai Troops Neutralise Over 25 ISWAP Terrorists in Borno
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated multi-directional attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State, killing more than 25 terrorists and recovering arms and ammunition, according to the Nigerian Army.
The terrorists reportedly attacked troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion from four different directions. The troops responded with superior firepower, tactical manoeuvres and coordinated battlefield operations.
With support from the Air Component, the troops overpowered the attackers and forced surviving terrorists to flee. The Army said preliminary assessment indicated that more than 25 terrorists were neutralised, with 14 bodies recovered so far.
During the subsequent exploitation of the area, troops recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition, including six AK-47 rifles.
The Army said further exploitation operations were ongoing to recover additional weapons, track fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.
The encounter also resulted in the death of some soldiers. The Nigerian Army expressed condolences to the families of the fallen personnel and commended their courage and sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The Army said the successful repulsion of the attack demonstrated the readiness and resilience of troops in the North-East Theatre, as well as the growing effectiveness of coordinated air and ground operations against terrorist activities.
It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operational pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements through aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and coordinated offensives with sister services and other security agencies.
