Operation Safe Haven Personnel Rewarded for Rejecting Bribe in Anti-Cattle Rustling Operation

In a commendable display of integrity and commitment to duty, eight personnel of the Special Task Force under Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have been rewarded for rejecting a hefty bribe of 1.5 million naira from suspected cattle rustlers in Plateau State.

The personnel, deployed at OPSH Sector 4, intercepted 30 rustled cows at the Bisichi checkpoint in the Barkin Ladi local government area of the state. The cattle, belonging to Shehu Umar and rustled in Mangu, were being transported to an undisclosed location when the vigilant troops, engaged in a routine stop and search operation, intercepted the vehicle.

Upon interception, the occupants of the vehicle, identified as Anas Usman (20 years) and Gyang Cholly (42 years), immediately attempted to bribe the troops with 1.5 million naira to secure a security pass for the stolen cattle. Undeterred by the tempting offer, the personnel firmly rejected the bribe, apprehended the suspects, and seized the money offered for the illicit transaction.

Major General Abubakar, the commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, recognised and rewarded the exemplary conduct of the eight personnel. In a ceremony held to honor their commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct, cash rewards were presented to the distinguished personnel. “I urge other security personnel to take inspiration from the brave actions of your colleagues. It is important to maintaining good conduct in the discharge of your responsibilities.”

Representing Major General Abubakar, Brigadier General MO Agi, the Chief of Staff OPSH, reiterated the call for unwavering commitment to ethical conduct and bravery among security personnel. He emphasised the need for others to emulate the excellent conduct displayed by the eight personnel, highlighting the pivotal role such actions play in maintaining law and order in the region.

The reward ceremony serves as a testament to the commitment of Operation SAFE HAVEN in fostering a culture of integrity and ethical conduct within the security forces, particularly in the ongoing efforts to combat cattle rustling and related criminal activities in Plateau State.
