Osun community gets electricity supply after 92 years
Araromi-Oke Odo, a hamlet in Osun State’s Ife South Local Government Area, now has electricity after 92 years of existence.
This comes as Governor Ademola Adeleke has pledged to work with independent energy firms to illuminate communities that have been in the dark for a long time.
It was also discovered that the hamlet, which was formed in 1932, lacked electricity as well as many other essential services such as piped water and excellent roads.

Governor Adeleke, who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy, Adeyemo Ademola, complimented the residents of the village for their perseverance since their arrival in the town in 1932.
Adeyemi stated that the project would be expanded to other villages in the state.
“This is the first of its kind in this State. We appreciate the Sholep company and we are anticipating more of it.
“There are projects of this nature going on in eight different communities in Ife-South. We are extending the same gesture to other communities in other local governments in Osun.
“The State government is partnering with foreign investors to give energy to our State. Many communities are not under the grid, so the State government is allowing independent energy to fill the gap to light up Osun State,” Adeleke said.
In his words, the CEO, Sholep Energy Limited, Engr. Olalekan Adeleke Shogbesan, revealed that the World Bank Assisted project mainly financed by the company (Sholep) was underway in eleven (11) different communities within the Ife-south local government area of the State.
He stated that the 50KWP Hybrid Solar Mini-Grid Power Plant, which began building in 2018, was sufficient to provide ample electricity to the entire community of Araromi Oke-Odo.
Oba Abass Gbadamosi, Alara of Araromi Oke-odo, expressed delight that the idea came to completion, although many doubted it when the business came to the village.
He vowed that the community will work with the enterprise in all aspects and preserve its commercial interests.
