Former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), has congratulated recipients of the OurNigeria Awards 2024, emphasising that they truly deserved the honours bestowed upon them.
Speaking at the prestigious event themed “Nigeria Rising: Celebrating Excellence, Charting the Future”, Buratai expressed confidence in the country’s progress, stating, “Nigeria will surely rise.”
He commended the Editorial Board of OurNigeria News Magazine, led by Dr. A.K. Peters, for their meticulous selection of outstanding individuals for the awards.
Among those honoured was Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, who received the Governor of the Year/Best Governor in Grassroots Development Award.
Buratai praised Namadi’s transformative leadership, particularly for repositioning Jigawa from an isolated state to a thriving hub, noting that the state’s improved road network was a testament to his commitment to development.
The former army chief also lauded the current service chiefs for their sustained counterterrorism efforts across the country, reaffirming the importance of national security in Nigeria’s growth.
Additionally, he commended Senator Abdulazeez Yar’adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Nigerian Army, who was recognised as Legislator of the Year.
Describing Yar’adua as a “rising star”, Buratai emphasised that the nation has high expectations from him.
In his address to young officers and Nigerian youths, Buratai urged them to remain hopeful about the future, assuring them that brighter days lay ahead.
The OurNigeria Awards 2024 served as a platform to celebrate excellence and inspire a renewed commitment to national development.
