Across several polling units monitored, voters turned out calmly to exercise their franchise, forming orderly queues and waiting patiently for accreditation and voting. Electoral officials and materials arrived early in most of the areas visited.
However, at Polling Unit 065, Area 2 by Junction in Nyanya, officials arrived at about 10:27 a.m., later than expected. They attributed the delay to transportation challenges, explaining that vehicles were first deployed to convey personnel to more distant locations before returning to pick up those closer to the INEC office.
While pockets of voter apathy were observed in a few centres, many polling units recorded encouraging turnout. At Polling Unit 059, Area D, Mopol Junction, Nyanya, a large number of voters participated peacefully throughout the exercise.
The unit, however, experienced a minor challenge due to the absence of an official stamp. The Presiding Officer explained that they had been directed to substitute the stamp with the officer’s signature to ensure voting continued without interruption.
Party agents were present at many polling units, although some centres had no party representation. At one polling unit in Nyanya, party agents reported difficulty locating electoral officials and said they proceeded to the INEC Area Office to escort them back to the centre.
Security presence was visible across the corridor, with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and traffic officers deployed to maintain order. Joint security patrol vehicles were also observed along major highways and inner roads, enforcing movement restrictions and ensuring public safety throughout the exercise.
Overall, stakeholders on ground expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the polls while calling for sustained improvements in logistics and coordination in future elections.
