Police Arrest Four Suspected Fraudsters, Recover Vehicles, Rustled Cattle in Niger State

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested four suspected fraudsters and recovered two vehicles in separate operations across Niger State.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Wasiu Abiodun.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested on May 12, 2026, following credible intelligence that they were attempting to transport a suspected stolen Volkswagen Golf along Kaduna Road to meet a buyer.

Police operatives attached to Maje Division reportedly intercepted the vehicle at about 11pm along Kaduna Road and arrested four suspects identified as Badamasi Saidu, Adamu Musa, Yunusa Mohammed and Mohammed Usman.

Police said the suspects had removed the vehicle’s number plate in an attempt to disguise it as a newly acquired car, but a search led to the recovery of the original registration plate.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to operating a syndicate that specialised in deceiving unsuspecting buyers by framing them as receivers of stolen vehicles and motorcycles before intimidating and extorting them.

The police also recovered another Volkswagen vehicle, a Point of Sale machine allegedly used for financial transactions, and a fake Police Mess identity card reportedly belonging to one of the suspects.

The Command said investigations are ongoing while efforts have intensified to arrest other members of the syndicate.

In another operation on May 14, 2026, joint security operatives reportedly engaged suspected bandits involved in cattle rustling along Mangoro-Idu village in Munya Local Government Area.

Police said the suspects fled during a gun battle, abandoning 67 rustled animals comprising 43 cows and 24 sheep, which were later handed over to their rightful owners in collaboration with local authorities.

Similarly, police patrol operatives attached to Maikunkele Division recovered another cow abandoned by two fleeing suspects along the Rafin-Yashin area on May 13.

The Command added that efforts are ongoing to identify the rightful owner of the animal.

Meanwhile, the police also arrested 20 suspected hoodlums linked to youth restiveness and public disturbances in Minna.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested following clashes involving students from two secondary schools along Bosso Road, which caused panic and disrupted public activities.

The Command further disclosed that one suspected thug was injured during an encounter with police patrol operatives around Gwari Market after hoodlums allegedly attacked officers with dangerous weapons.

Police said an axe and suspected cannabis were recovered during the operation, while the injured suspect was taken to hospital for treatment.
