The Nigeria Police Force has disowned a purported programme tagged “AFRIPOL 2026” currently circulating on social media and other online platforms, describing it as unauthorized and misleading.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force clarified that it did not approve, endorse, or authorize any such programme, warning members of the public and corporate organizations to disregard the publication.
The Police also condemned the unauthorized use of the name “AFRIPOL”, noting that it refers to the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation, an official continental policing structure established under the African Union, and not a platform for privately organized events.
The statement further stressed that the Inspector-General of Police, the official logo of the Nigeria Police Force, and other institutional identities were used without approval or consent.
It warned that such misuse of official symbols and names was deceptive and capable of misleading unsuspecting members of the public.
Members of the public were advised not to engage in any form of sponsorship, payment or participation in connection with the said programme.
The statement was issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 20, 2026.
