Pro-democracy Groups Commend Gbajabiamila’s Two Decades of Legislative Excellence
In a resounding tribute, the Surulere Community Stakeholders Group and the National Youth and Students Group have hailed Femi Gbajabiamila’s outstanding legislative prowess during his remarkable 20-year tenure in the House of Representatives.
The joint statement, signed by Presidents Badejo Olaniyan and Vincent Okafor in Abuja, applauds Gbajabiamila’s unwavering commitment to democracy, citing his stellar career that traversed minority leadership (2007–2015), majority leadership (2015–2019), and the esteemed role of Speaker from 2019 to 2023.
The groups emphasised Gbajabiamila’s exceptional contributions to the health and education sectors, citing his extraordinary projects that have positively impacted the lives of Nigerians, particularly in Surulere 1 of Lagos State.
A key highlight is the passage of the Student Loans Act, 2023, a testament to Gbajabiamila’s dedication to advancing the country’s education sector. The statement highlights his sponsorship of 25 crucial bills, including the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Physically Challenged (Empowerment) Bill 2019, and the Nigeria Health Infrastructure Development Bank (Establishment, etc.) Bill 2020.
“As true Nigerians who understand the value of democracy, we commend Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila for his consistency and stellar legislative career,” the statement reads. “He is a true democrat, a leader who comprehends the intricacies of governance, and one who consistently acts in the best interest of his people.”
Gbajabiamila’s 20-year political journey in the House of Representatives, representing Surulere 1 of Lagos State, culminated on June 11, 2023, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s legislative landscape.
