Prof. Oluyemi Fayomi: A Lifetime of Scholarly Excellence and Contributions to Nation-Building
Prof. Oluyemi Fayomi, a trailblazer in the fields of International Relations and multidisciplinary research, has been nominated to receive the prestigious 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award in Scholarship by OurNigeria News Magazine.
This recognition, unveiled in a statement signed by the Publisher, MS Abubakar, PhD, was ratified by the magazine’s Editorial Board and the Nomination and Selection Committee, led by Sir Dr. Ak Etta Peters. The award ceremony, set for January 30, 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, will be chaired by Alh. Abdulmutallab Umar, CON. Prof. Fayomi will be honoured alongside other distinguished Nigerians whose contributions have significantly impacted the nation’s development.

A tenured faculty member in the Department of Political Science at the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) in Borno State, Prof. Fayomi is also the pioneer Director of Research Development and Innovation (RD & I) at NAUB. Over the years, she has earned numerous awards, grants, and fellowships, cementing her reputation as an astute academic leader.
As a scholar and administrator, Prof. Fayomi’s influence extends beyond teaching and research. Her expertise spans diverse areas, including migration, conflict transformation, regional integration, diaspora, gender, security, and environmental and developmental issues. She is a sought-after member of several prestigious academic and professional bodies and has served on numerous editorial boards of peer-reviewed journals, such as the Yamtara-Wala Journal of Arts, Management, and Social Sciences and the Admiralty Journal of Multidisciplinary Research.
Prof. Fayomi has also demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to global and regional health governance, e-governance, and policy development through her active participation in organisations like the Knowledge Network on Climate Assemblies (KNOCA) and the African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL) Community.
Her research and professional activities have earned her recognition on both the national and international stage. Between 2022 and 2024, she served in Nigeria’s Technical Aid Corps, a programme under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s soft diplomacy. During this time, she was seconded to the International Non-Governmental Anglophone University in Africa-Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), where she contributed her expertise to the Department of Political Science.
In addition to her academic work, Prof. Fayomi is a Charter member of the National Association of Artificial Intelligence Practitioners (NAAIP), further demonstrating her engagement with emerging technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration.
