Professional Military Education Key to Tackling Modern Security Challenges — Major General Moyo
Major General Vincent Moyo, Commandant of the Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College, has emphasized that Professional Military Education (PME) remains a vital instrument for addressing the increasingly complex security challenges confronting modern militaries.

Major General Moyo made this assertion during the official opening ceremony of the 46-week Senior Command and Staff Course Number 6 at the college in Salima.
He explained that Professional Military Studies are designed to equip military officers with advanced critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to understand and respond effectively to contemporary security issues.
“The contemporary security environment continues to pose different complexities. Military commanders must be able to adapt in joint military operations, demanding critical thinking, coherent planning, ethical advice, and sound leadership,” Major General Moyo stated.
He further noted that the Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College remains committed to developing officers capable of operating efficiently at all levels of command, ensuring they are well-prepared to execute their duties in dynamic operational environments.
The sixth cohort of the Senior Command and Staff Course comprises 31 students, including 22 officers from Malawi and nine from allied nations—Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—reflecting the college’s growing regional significance in professional military training.
The ceremony marked the formal commencement of the course, which is expected to further strengthen regional cooperation and enhance professional standards within participating armed forces.
