PSG slump to 3rd home defeat of season

As 17 years Shola Shoretire made his first senior appearance for Man-U

Five days after humbling Barcelona 4-1 in the Champions League, the third-placed Paris Saint-Germain lost ground in the Ligue 1 title race when they slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Monaco on Sunday.

During the Sunday’s game, the French champions lacked stamina and inspiration as they fell four points behind leaders Lille who have 58 points from 26 games after beating Lorient 4-1 on Sunday.

Niko Kovac’s men broke the deadlock on six minutes when 20-year-old Sofiane Diop headed in from six yards out following a rapid counterattack.

The points were sealed three minutes after the break when Guillermo Maripan dispossessed Ander Herrera and slotted the ball past Keylor Navas into the far corner.

Fourth-placed Monaco, who have now won eight of their last nine league games, are now two points off PSG.

Meanwhile, Nigerian descent teenage Shola Shoretire made his first senior appearance for Manchester United on Sunday night as the Red Devils beat Newcastle United 3-1 at Old Trafford.

The winger who turned 17 earlier this month came on as an 89th-minute substitute for Marcus Rashford as he enjoyed a cameo role.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho suffered another London derby defeat as West Ham piped Tottenham Hotspur 2-1.

While the Hammers are surprisingly occupying the fourth spot, Spurs are nine points adrift in the ninth position.

Pep Guardiola’s men earlier on Sunday beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates. Arsenal have now lost their last four Premier League games against Manchester City without scoring a goal.

Also on Sunday, Leicester City were in action away to Aston Villa and it was the Foxes that picked a 2-1 win at Villa Park.

Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi who was in action for Leicester City received a first-half booked with a yellow card.
