RECAP, Game Changer Group Hold Strategic Talks on Leadership, National Development

The Renewal Congress of Aladura and Celestial Churches in Politics (RECAP) and The Game Changer Group have held strategic talks in Abuja on the development of transformational leadership, greater youth participation in governance, and the need to bridge the gap between Nigeria’s emerging generation and the processes of leadership and national development.
The meeting, held on Tuesday during a working visit to Abuja by the President of RECAP, Professor Adebayo Adeniji, focused on the development of a new generation of leaders equipped with the knowledge, skills, values, and practical experience required to contribute meaningfully to national life.

Discussions also examined the importance of structured mentorship and leadership development programmes that identify young Nigerians with leadership potential and provide them with opportunities to develop their abilities and gradually assume responsibilities across different sectors of society.
The engagement is part of RECAP’s broader effort to promote responsible political participation and strengthen the capacity of its constituency to contribute constructively to Nigeria’s political and civic processes.
A significant issue arising from Adeniji’s Abuja engagements is the proposed establishment of a RECAP Abuja Chapter, with consultations also considering the possibility of an Abuja headquarters annex.
The proposed structure recognises the strategic importance of Abuja as the seat of Nigeria’s government and a major centre for political decision-making, diplomacy, and national institutional activity. A stronger RECAP presence in the capital would provide a platform for sustained engagement with government institutions, political actors, diplomatic missions, religious organisations, civil society, professional bodies, and other stakeholders.
Beyond leadership development, the discussions around RECAP’s activities also touched on the organisation’s interest in contributing to national discourse and helping citizens, particularly younger Nigerians, better understand the policies and programmes that shape their lives.
Adeniji’s working visit included several other high-level engagements.
He represented Ambassador Yussuf Mamman, former Ambassador of Nigeria to the Vatican and Spain, at a private dinner held in honour of Lieutenant General Domenico Giani (rtd), former Commander of the Vatican Gendarmerie, where he served as Chairman and delivered remarks on behalf of the Ambassador.
Speaking on the relationship between Nigeria and the Holy See, Adeniji noted that the ties between both entities extend beyond formal diplomatic relations to shared values of peace, human dignity, social justice, education, and service to humanity.
“Nigeria and the Holy See share a long-standing diplomatic relationship built not only on formal state relations, but also on shared values of peace, human dignity, social justice, education and service to humanity,” he said.
He further noted the importance of the relationship given Nigeria’s strategic position in Africa and the Holy See’s global influence in promoting dialogue, peacebuilding, and humanitarian values.
Adeniji also paid tribute to General Giani’s distinguished career, recalling his background in Italy’s security and intelligence services and his subsequent service to the Holy See for about two decades, culminating in his tenure as Commander of the Vatican Gendarmerie.
“His responsibilities placed him at the heart of the security of the Vatican and the Popes, requiring discipline, discretion, professionalism and international cooperation,” Adeniji stated.
The RECAP President was also a guest at the public presentation of Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era, which brought together military officers, diplomats, traditional rulers, academics, public officials, professionals, and other stakeholders.
The presentation provided another platform for Adeniji to hold consultations with individuals and groups on the sidelines of the event, with discussions touching on leadership, political participation, national development, and institutional collaboration.
The series of engagements formed part of Adeniji’s broader strategic visit to Abuja, with the RECAP–Game Changer meeting providing a central platform for discussions on leadership development and the role of emerging generations in shaping Nigeria’s future.
The proposed RECAP Abuja Branch and headquarters annex, according to him, are expected to further position RECAP to engage stakeholders in the nation’s capital and advance its objectives of promoting responsible political participation, leadership development, and constructive national engagement among members of the Aladura and Celestial church traditions, who are in large quantity and quality in the Federal Capital Territory.
