Remi Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Embrace Small Businesses, Says Over ₦3bn Spent on Empowerment

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged Nigerians, particularly low-income earners, to take advantage of small-scale business opportunities, saying ventures such as selling akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli can be started with minimal capital.

Speaking on the administration’s efforts to support entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, Senator Tinubu said the government has continued to provide grants to help Nigerians establish and grow small businesses.

According to her, many micro-enterprises do not require large amounts of money to get started.

“To start an akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn or kuli-kuli doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan; we gave them a grant. We have encouraged Nigerians as best as we could. I also gave to several others,” she said.

The First Lady noted that the support provided was in the form of grants rather than loans, explaining that beneficiaries were not expected to repay the funds.

She further disclosed that more than ₦3 billion has been spent on empowerment initiatives targeted at vulnerable and low-income Nigerians across the country.

Senator Tinubu said the intervention programmes are aimed at promoting self-reliance, reducing poverty and creating opportunities for citizens to improve their livelihoods through small-scale businesses and entrepreneurship.

She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting Nigerians through various social and economic empowerment initiatives designed to boost household incomes and strengthen local economies.
