Rivers Police Neutralise Notorious Cult Leader in Successful Operation

The Rivers State Police Command successfully apprehended Silas Oderereke, a notorious armed robber and cult leader in Oderereke, Ahoada-West Local Government Area, widely known as ‘General.’

Oderereke had eluded arrest for four years, leading a reign of terror with his gang, the Greenlanders, known for armed robbery, land grabbing, and unauthorised property sales.

The climax of Oderereke’s criminal activities occurred on January 11, 2024, when the police received intelligence about his gang’s robbery operation, involving the vandalism of property belonging to the late monarch, Eze Robinson O. Robinson. Swiftly responding, the police pursued the criminals, leading to a confrontation in which Oderereke and an accomplice opened fire on the officers. In the ensuing exchange, both were killed, and others sustained injuries. Notably, two other gang leaders, Danger-boy and 2-Man, managed to escape.

A subsequent search of the gang’s hideout revealed a G3 Rifle and nineteen 7.62x51mm ammunition. Investigations unveiled a camp established by Oderereke between Oderereke and Olokuma Communities, serving as a base for criminal activities. Residents in neighbouring communities expressed relief, recounting how they had endured attacks, prompting some to relocate to Port Harcourt.

Commending the officers involved, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised their exceptional work. He issued a stern warning to cultists, urging them to abandon criminal activities or face the consequences. CP Disu assured residents of the state that the Police Command, under his leadership, remains committed to maintaining peace and enhancing security.
