Scholarship: Ex-rep member donate N10.8 million to Gombe students

The former member representing Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency in the house of representative, Fatima Binta Bello, has launched her trust fund foundation with the donation of N10.8 million as a scholarship to 540 Tangale/Waja indigent students.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the scholarship scheme under the Fatima-Binta Bello Trust Fund Foundation on Education and Girl-Child Upliftment in Gombe, the ex-lawmaker stated that the scheme was a result of her passion for education and to enhance the educational standard within the Tangale/Waja region of the southern Gombe.

According to her, the scholarship would assist beneficiaries who were predominantly from a less privileged background and were selected from across the tertiary institutions in the country through the Tangale Waja Students Association (TAWASU).

While calling on other spirited individuals from Balanga, Billiri, Kaltungo and Shongom Local Government Areas of the Gombe south to assist students particularly less privileged to realize their dreams, Bello said: “All my life, I have been driven by my strong belief that every child has a dream, hence the need to help them realize their dreams”.

On his part, the National President of TAWASU, Mr Joffery Jona, appreciate the former lawmaker for the gesture which he described as timely considering COVID-19 hardship which affected several families and the country’s economy as well.

He also challenged the students not to take Education alone as source of priority but also to venture into business which would make their lives better.

Also speaking at the launching, Dr. Hadu Naphtali, tasked the students and other youths to do away with religious politics and to always support course that would ensure peace and unity of not just the state or region but the nation at large.

He said: “We have a long way as a nation and then state, going back will be very catastrophic, we just have to learn to tolerate and live with one another”.
