Security personnel at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have foiled an attempted armed robbery attack on the company’s Ogbomoso Transmission Substation in Oyo State.
TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to her, preliminary reports showed that the armed men gained unauthorised access into the substation in the early hours of Sunday by scaling the perimeter fence.
She explained that the intruders entered the facility near the gate between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning before proceeding to the gate house in an attempt to attack and disarm the vigilante personnel on duty.
“The security team on duty repelled the attackers by firing warning shots, forcing them to retreat and flee through the same route they used to gain entry,” Mbah said.
She added that the suspects abandoned some tools and personal belongings during their escape, while traces of blood and footprints were discovered near the fence wall during an early morning inspection.
According to the statement, a further search conducted after daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the attackers.
Mbah noted that the incident had been reported to relevant security authorities and that the company was collaborating with security agencies to investigate the attempted attack and prevent future occurrences.
She confirmed that no member of staff or security personnel was injured during the incident.
The TCN spokesperson reaffirmed the company’s commitment to protecting its facilities and ensuring the safety of personnel and critical power infrastructure across the country.
