Senate Approves ₦11 Trillion Revenue Target for Nigeria Customs Service in 2026

The Senate has approved the Nigeria Customs Service’s proposed revenue target of over ₦11 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, expressing confidence in the Service’s capacity to meet the ambitious projection.

The approval followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, which commended the Service for its outstanding revenue performance in the 2025 fiscal year.

Lawmakers noted that the Nigeria Customs Service exceeded its 2025 revenue target, generating ₦7.2 trillion against the projected ₦6.5 trillion, representing an increase of more than 10 per cent.

The Senate attributed the impressive performance to ongoing reforms, improved operational efficiency and enhanced revenue collection mechanisms implemented by the Service.

To achieve the 2026 revenue target, the Nigeria Customs Service plans to strengthen the deployment of technology through increased automation of its operations, real-time audit systems and improved cargo clearance processes to reduce the turnaround time for imports and exports.

The Service will also intensify anti-smuggling operations and enhance border security to curb revenue leakages and boost trade facilitation.

The Senate expressed optimism that the planned reforms and sustained modernization efforts would further improve customs administration, enhance revenue generation and support the Federal Government’s economic and fiscal objectives.
