Senator Ibrahim Gaidam Elevates Training Standards at Nigeria Police Academy

In a dedicated effort to elevate the training standards of cadet students at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, the Honorable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, conducted a comprehensive familiarisation visit on Monday, March 4, 2024.

During this visit, the esteemed Minister actively participated in various activities, including the inspection of the guard of honour at the quarter guard, addressing cadets at the parade ground, holding discussions with the academy’s management, and scrutinising crucial facilities such as the clinic, sports complex, and indoor shooting range.

Senator Ibrahim Gaidam conveyed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Government to implementing strategic measures aimed at enhancing the capabilities of cadet students. These measures encompass improvements in training and education, provision of mentorship and guidance, emphasis on ethics and professionalism, promotion of physical and wellness programs, community engagement, and facilitation of practical experience.

In his address to the academy, Senator Gaidam emphasised the importance of nurturing future law enforcement leaders in Nigeria “the continuous improvement in the performance of cadet students is pivotal. Hence, I must commend the efforts of the institution’s management, led by the Commandant, AIG Abubakar, in effecting positive changes in these young ones. ”

The Minister commended the management’s dedication to transforming the academy, stating, “I am very pleased with the level of academic and training of young police officers in our institution.” He pledged ongoing support to ensure the production of well-trained police officers contributing to peace, progress, and political stability in Nigeria.

In response, AIG Sadiq Abubakar, the Commandant of the Academy, highlighted the institution’s achievements in realizing its objectives. He credited the Federal Government’s support, channeled through the Ministry of Police Affairs, for enabling the academy to pursue policies aimed at becoming one of the premier Police Training Institutions in Africa.

Despite the progress made, the Commandant acknowledged several challenges faced by the institution, including a shortage of academic and directing staff, inadequate staff quarters, lack of sufficient science and language laboratories to accommodate the growing cadet population, and incomplete major projects.

The collaborative efforts between the government and the academy’s management underscore their shared commitment to enhancing the quality of police training and education, fostering modern policing practices, and positioning the Nigeria Police Academy as a leading institution in Africa.
