Shettima Reaffirms Tinubu Administration’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to implementing policies and programmes aimed at empowering women and expanding their opportunities across different sectors of the economy.

Shettima said women remained central to national development, describing them as the backbone of society and key contributors to economic activities and social stability.

The Vice President stated this on Monday, October 12, 2026, when he received a delegation of Nigerian Women for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 (NWFTAS 2027), an All Progressives Congress (APC) support group advocating the re-election of President Tinubu and his deputy, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The delegation was led by the group’s Board of Trustees Chairman, High Chief (Dr.) Bisola Sodipo Edwin Clark, and its National Coordinator and Convener, CSI Elsie Morgan Mangai (Rtd).

Shettima commended the group for its organised structure and national profile, assuring its members of the administration’s support for their activities and programmes.

“Women are the backbone of every society, and the growth and stability of every society. A nation is judged by the way they treat their women,” he said.

The Vice President added that he was conveying President Tinubu’s goodwill and assurance of support to enable the group to carry out its activities.

Earlier, Mangai said the delegation visited the Presidential Villa to brief the Vice President on the group’s objectives and activities as a political support organisation.

She pledged the group’s support for the Tinubu administration and said it would mobilise Nigerians, particularly women, to support the APC presidential ticket in the 2027 election.

Mangai explained that the group’s campaign was based on its belief that the administration should be allowed to continue its policies and complete ongoing programmes.

She compared the government’s economic reforms to resetting a broken bone, arguing that the process required time to heal, while expressing confidence in the leadership of Tinubu and Shettima.

The coordinator also praised the Vice President’s advocacy for national unity, citing his message that what unites Nigerians is greater than what divides them.

According to her, Shettima’s humility, loyalty to the President and calm leadership had strengthened the group’s confidence in the administration.

She said the support group was established after its members observed the relationship between Tinubu and Shettima, as well as the administration’s decision to introduce economic reforms intended to reshape the country’s economic and political direction.

The statement was issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, on October 12, 2026.
