Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has called on Mikel Arteta to strengthen Arsenal’s squad this summer by targeting two key areas, particularly the left side of attack.

Despite their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, the Gunners remain on course for a historic season, still competing in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League. Arsenal currently hold a nine-point lead over second-placed Manchester City with seven games remaining.
Gerrard singled out Arsenal’s left-wing options, noting that Gabriel Martinelli has struggled to replicate previous form while Leandro Trossard has been inconsistent. “I think Arsenal will potentially go for a player on the left,” Gerrard told TNT Sports. “I don’t think Gabriel Martinelli has been as good as he was previously maybe, and Leandro Trossard is a good player, but that is an area they might look at in terms of how to get the team and squad better.”
Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist also predicted that Arteta will seek to strengthen his squad in the summer, though the extent of investment will depend on how the remainder of the season unfolds. “You always look to bring players in and strengthen your squad, and that will be the case,” McCoist said. “A lot of it will be determined by how the season goes and even what happens to the manager, as the pressure on Arsenal is absolutely immense.”
Arsenal will return to action after the international break with an FA Cup quarter-final clash against Southampton, followed by the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Sporting CP, before resuming Premier League duties against Bournemouth.
The focus on reinforcing the squad comes as Arteta prepares to navigate a demanding schedule while keeping his team in contention for multiple trophies this season.
