For many people, success is measured by career achievements, financial comfort, and a luxurious lifestyle. But for Sandra Lavie Gojkovic, a Swiss national, true fulfilment came from a different path — dedicating her life to providing education and hope for underprivileged children in rural India.

Born and raised in Switzerland, Sandra built a successful corporate career that eventually took her to Dubai, where she enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle and professional success. However, despite achieving what many considered a dream career, she felt a growing desire to pursue a more meaningful purpose.
In 2011, Sandra made a life-changing decision. She resigned from her job and embarked on a backpacking journey across India. During her travels, she witnessed the struggles faced by children in remote communities, particularly those without access to quality education and basic support.
The experience transformed her outlook on life and inspired her to dedicate herself to helping children in need.
A year later, in 2012, Sandra used her personal savings to establish The India School Project in Chakfuldubi village, located on Sagar Island in West Bengal, India. What started as a small initiative grew into a structured educational programme providing free learning opportunities for children who previously had limited access to schooling.
The project has since developed into a community-centred school where children receive education, care, and encouragement to dream beyond their circumstances. Today, the initiative supports around 150 children through free education, while more than 100 additional children benefit from daily meals and tutoring programmes.
Beyond academics, the school focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment where children can develop confidence, creativity, and essential life skills.
Sandra’s journey represents a powerful example of how personal choices can create lasting social impact. She walked away from a life of comfort and financial security to invest her time, resources, and energy into building opportunities for children who needed them most.
Reflecting on her work, Sandra has often expressed that the happiness and smiles of the children she serves bring her a sense of fulfilment that material wealth could never provide.
Her story is a reminder that success is not only defined by what people achieve for themselves, but also by the positive change they create for others. Through education, compassion, and commitment, Sandra Lavie Gojkovic has helped shape a brighter future for hundreds of children in rural India.
