President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, commending the security agencies for bringing the over 50-day ordeal to an end.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force for their sustained efforts, which led to the safe rescue of the victims after 56 days in captivity.

President Tinubu said the security operation, driven by military, police and intelligence collaboration, resulted in the arrest of eight suspected abductors, while several others were neutralised during the rescue mission.

He commended the professionalism of the security personnel, noting that the operation was successfully carried out without collateral damage.

The President also acknowledged the pain and anxiety endured by the abducted children, their teachers, their families and Nigerians throughout the period of captivity.

“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso, in Oyo State after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists responsible for the attack and led to the arrest of eight others,” the President stated.

According to him, the successful operation has brought relief to the affected families and the nation, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of Nigerians.

President Tinubu assured that justice would be served for the rescued victims and for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed by the abductors during the incident.

He also commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government and security agencies throughout the rescue operation, urging the state authorities to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.

The President further directed relevant emergency response agencies to work closely with the Oyo State Government to provide the rescued pupils and teachers with the necessary medical care, trauma counselling and other relief support to aid their recovery.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to sustain the fight against kidnapping, terrorism and other violent crimes across the country while ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
