The directive comes barely four days after the rollout of the policy, which reportedly led to massive gridlock at major airports nationwide as motorists and passengers struggled to comply with the new payment system.
The cashless initiative, which required electronic payments at airport entry points, had drawn criticism from travelers and stakeholders who cited operational delays and inadequate infrastructure to support a seamless transition.
In response to the growing concerns and disruption to airport operations, President Tinubu ordered FAAN to halt the implementation with immediate effect, pending a comprehensive review.
Aviation authorities are expected to address the logistical challenges associated with the policy to prevent further inconvenience to airport users.
