President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army.

He gave this assurance during the inauguration of the newly constructed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks in Abuja on Thursday.

The president described the barracks project as a testament to the federal government’s dedication to enhancing troops’ welfare through the provision of modern office and residential facilities.

“Knowing that the federal government is always ready to provide what our troops need to fulfill their mandates is essential for winning battles. You are our heroes, and I thank you for what you have been doing for this country,” Tinubu stated.

He lauded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for his visionary leadership in completing the state-of-the-art facility and commended all personnel involved in the timely execution of the project.

“Your welfare cannot and will not be compromised. We will continue to commit resources to improve your welfare. What you all are doing for us is extremely remarkable, and the only way we can show our gratitude is by continuously supporting the men and women in uniform,” Tinubu added.

The president also honored the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for his significant contributions to the Nigerian Army’s development.

Speaking at the event, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede reiterated the Nigerian Army’s dedication to upholding the constitution and supporting the nation’s democratic growth.

He pledged unflinching support for Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to enhance national security and socio-economic stability.

Oluyede highlighted the acute shortage of accommodation faced by the Nigerian Army but expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts to address the issue.

He noted that the newly inaugurated barracks mark the completion of phases one and two of a larger project.

“The facility includes: 16 Major General Quarters, 17 Brigadier General Quarters, 3×20 Family Quarters for Majors to Colonels, 30×20 Family Quarters for Lieutenants to Captains, 60×30 Family Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Quarters, 6×30 Family Corporal and Below Quarters and 40×21 Corporal and Below Quarters.

“In total, the barracks will accommodate 614 personnel, including 170 officers and 444 soldiers, along with their families.

The COAS expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support in ensuring that men and women in uniform have access to affordable, decent, and dignified accommodation.

Naming the barracks after the president, he said, was a gesture of appreciation for his tireless commitment to the Nigerian Army.

The inauguration signifies a new chapter in enhancing the welfare and operational capacity of the Nigerian Army, aligning with the administration’s broader vision for a secure and prosperous nation.
