Tinubu’s Reforms Positioning Nigeria for Long-Term Prosperity, Says Information Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated that the bold reforms introduced by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are repositioning Nigeria for sustainable economic growth, increased investor confidence and accelerated national development.

The Minister made the statement on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the APC Forum of Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly (FOPSHA), led by its Chairman, Rt. Hon. Sen. Wasiu Esinlokun, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry’s headquarters.

Mohammed Idris commended the Forum for its contributions to democratic governance and national development, assuring the delegation that government media organisations, including the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), would support coverage of the Forum’s forthcoming National Executive Council and Board of Trustees meeting.

He said the support aligns with the Ministry’s responsibility of ensuring Nigerians remain adequately informed about issues of national importance.

The Minister noted that within three years, the Tinubu administration has implemented critical reforms aimed at strengthening the economy and creating a foundation for long-term prosperity.

Among the reforms highlighted were the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms, improved fiscal capacity for both the Federal Government and sub-national governments, expansion of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), growth in external reserves, improved GDP performance, major infrastructure projects including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, as well as renewed efforts to address insecurity.

According to the Minister, the administration took difficult but necessary decisions that had been avoided for decades.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took courageous decisions that previous administrations avoided for decades. Today, Nigeria is witnessing greater fiscal stability, improved investor confidence, enhanced infrastructure development and expanding opportunities for citizens. The foundation has been laid for a more prosperous future,” he said.

Mohammed Idris urged members of FOPSHA to leverage their experience, leadership networks and grassroots connections to promote greater public understanding of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the long-term benefits of the government’s reforms.

Earlier, the Chairman of FOPSHA, Sen. Wasiu Esinlokun, said the delegation visited the Ministry to brief the Minister on the Forum’s activities and seek support for the publicity of its forthcoming meeting.

He explained that the event would bring together former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, former governors, former ministers, distinguished senators and other political leaders.

Sen. Esinlokun reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to supporting national development and mobilising grassroots engagement in promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda across the country.

Those present at the meeting included the FOPSHA Chairman, Rt. Hon. Sen. Wasiu Esinlokun; Secretary of the Forum, Prof. Matoh D. Dogara; Director of Production, Publication and Documentary, Mr. Ibidapo Okunnu; Deputy Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Ms. Fatoke Folasade, alongside senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and members of the FOPSHA delegation.
