Troops Eliminate Terrorists in Sokoto Forest Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army, under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded a major operational success after eliminating terrorists during a raid in Kadam Forest in Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

The operation was carried out by troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7 in conjunction with the 8 Division Strike Team following credible intelligence that more than 100 terrorists linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group had gathered deep inside the forest to coordinate attacks and kidnappings in surrounding communities.

According to military authorities, the terrorists were also planning to move kidnapped victims to their strongholds when troops swiftly mobilised to intercept them.

Contact with the terrorists was established at about 12:00 noon, leading to a fierce firefight. During the clash, the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, but troops responded with superior firepower, neutralising the threat and maintaining tactical control throughout the engagement.

Follow-up exploitation operations in the forest confirmed the neutralisation of three terrorists, while several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

Troops also recovered a cache of weapons and equipment, including one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three magazines, two communication radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone.

Military sources said further operations are ongoing in the area to track fleeing terrorists, confirm additional casualties, and recover more weapons.

The Army noted that troop morale remains high and described the mission as evidence of the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint security operations in weakening terrorist networks and disrupting their activities across the North West.
