Troops Rescue Six More Abducted Victims in Borno, Recover Ammunition

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have rescued six more abducted persons during ongoing search and rescue operations in Borno State.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the military said the latest breakthrough followed sustained air and ground operations backed by credible intelligence.

The rescued victims, comprising four adults and two infants, were found at Talakawa in Chibok Local Government Area. According to the military, they were among those abducted in Mussa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area, in May.

The victims have since been evacuated to a secure location where they are receiving medical evaluation and appropriate care. Operation HADIN KAI also provided them with relief materials and other basic necessities while arrangements are being made to reunite them with their families.

The military described the rescue as another major success in the ongoing search for abducted students of Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, and reaffirmed its commitment, alongside the Borno State Government, other security agencies and auxiliary forces, to securing the release of all remaining victims.

Troops are also continuing to pursue fleeing terrorists and maintain pressure along their withdrawal routes. During the operation, soldiers recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by the insurgents, an indication of what the military described as the terrorists’ disorganised retreat under sustained offensive operations.

Operation HADIN KAI assured residents that search and rescue operations would continue with renewed intensity until all abducted persons are safely recovered.

The military urged members of the public to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies, and disregard unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.

It reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace and stability across the North-East.
